How is it made

How is it made?...

Almost all of our projects were handmade using a tool called a scrollsaw. The technique is called Fretwork. This type of woodwork primarily involves sawing many inside openings to create ornamental or grill like objects.

Basic fretwork techniques and recognizable special tools can be traced back to the early 1700's and have not changed much since then. Fretwork overlays have been found in Egyptian tombs from 3000 years ago. Fretwork designs were often incorporated into the furniture designs of Duncan Phyfe, Thomas Chippendale, and others. Many of today's current designs are related to the Victorian era and are still being made today.
